Discussing hard to treat problems naturally...

Lower back pain is extremely common. There are mechanical and nutritional reasons for low back pain, both of which can be treated easily.

The three different areas of interest in the low back are the Quadratus Lumborum muscle, the Sacroiliac joints and the hip flexors (psoas and iliacis muscles) which you can see in the images and in the video.

It's safe to say that you if you already have low back pain and that you already realize that the muscles are really tight in the area where you hurt. Safe assumption? A good question is why.

Muscles contract when they're needed to keep you upright against gravity. If you happen to have a posture that forces certain muscles to contract "just to hold you upright", these muscles can hurt. Prior to your injury they were probably really tight but you didn't notice it. Then you made a certain move or got into a certain position and BAM! The pain hit hard. This is a mechanical problem for sure because it was due to a postural issue. This can be corrected with ABC in our office. Visit our website to learn more about this type of work that consistently and predictably fixes posture. It also prevents the old age, hunched over look which a lot of people get. They assume it's old age, but it's not. Check out ABC here .

Nutritional deficiencies can also cause muscles to tighten and cause pain. If you look through the other blogs that talk about viscerosomatic reactions you'll see that when certain nutritional deficiencies exist AND/OR certain organs are stressed that specific muscles that share the same nerve supply will contract. This can cause pain eventually, but often goes unnoticed for many years as the organs get more stressed. A very specific exam identifies those areas allowing you to get the exact supplemental herbs and enzymes you need to start feeling better quickly. For lower back pain there are three key areas that need to be identified.

The first area is the upper part of the Quadratus Lumborum muscle (shown in the third image with a purple highlight). This area contracts and is tight when your kidneys are under stress (kidneys are shown in the fourth image). They may not hurt, but they're contracted.

The second area is the lower part of the same muscle (shown with a green highlight). This area contracts and is tight when your liver is under stress. Again it may not hurt, but it's tight.

The third area is the Sacroiliac Joints (shown in the third image in yellow). This area is tight and contracted when you're deficient in Calcium. Now, let me be really clear here. This does not mean you need to start popping calcium pills. It won't work and you might start feeling sick. If you're deficient in Calcium, you also have a problem digesting protein and are going to be protein deficient. The only way to transport Calcium in the body is with a protein carrier. It also doesn't matter if you're eating three steaks a day. If you're not digesting this meat you are protein deficient. Don't panic because this is easily correctable. You just might not know how yet.

The last image shows the Calcium deficiency stress point. This area is tight along with the Sacroiliac joints. If you have tight hip flexors, which a lot of athletes do, then you will be very interested in fixing this problem. As an aside, another stress point is the Iliotibial band. When this stress point exists you have tight Iliotibial bands that can cause hip and knee pain. I discuss this in another blog article on Iliotibial band syndrome.

I had a 15 year old boy who had lower back pain. I'd treat him with chiropractic and his pain would go away for about 15 minutes then return. After three visits of this I put him on the Kidney enzyme formula and haven't heard from him since. His mother says he's been great ever since the kidney formula. He's long since finished the bottle, but I also told him to lay off the soda pop and drink more water. The kidney formula nourished his kidneys and allowed them to work MUCH BETTER. The extra water and less soda took a big stress off his kidneys. Bingo, pain solved. This boy would have suffered for years with low back pain had his kidney issue not been addressed. How many doctors do you know of that would have thought of this?

I've had other cases of back pain subside simply from enzyme nutrition as well. Other times it's a mechanical problem. Still other times it's both.

I get this question a lot when I'm palpating muscles during my exams. When I find really tight leg muscles, arm muscles or back muscles people say, "That's good right? That means it's strong." This is a commonly held belief, so I need to set the record straight.

Healthy muscle should be soft and squishy when relaxed and hard when you contract. They should never be tight when you're relaxed. When people have tight muscles they also think of stretching being the most important thing to relax the muscles. If you're big on stretching, I'm sure you've already come to the realization that it doesn't work all that well. In fact you can stretch and stretch and stretch and make very little difference in your muscles.

What's the real reason for the tightness you ask? Muscles contract for two reasons. The first is completely mechanical, the other is nutritional.

Lets start with the mechanical reason first. Your muscles are responsible for holding up your posture if your spinal mechanics are poor. If these muscles didn't contract, you would collapse forward somewhere. For example, with a lot of people, if their upper neck muscles didn't contract, they would be looking down all the time instead of forward towards the horizon. In others if they're lower back muscles were not contracted they couldn't stand up, much less walk. If they're upper back muscles were relaxed, they're shoulders wouldn't work and they might not even be able to raise their arms. For these people they absolutely must have tight muscles, even if they hurt. The solution for these problems is to fix their spinal mechanics and take away the need to have these contracted muscles. It's really simple when you have it explained and then experience the process and how your posture pops up and you can't slump.

With nutritional problems we need to start with a thing called a viscerosomatic response. This is when a stressed organ (viscera) causes a body (somatic) response. Everyone is familiar with a very common viscerosomatic response. When someone's having a heart attack, which arm hurts? The left, but why? This is a viscerosomatic response. The heart is under extreme stress when having a heart attack. Since the heart shares its nerve supply with nerves from the left arm, the left arm hurts right along with the heart attack.

This is an extreme version of a viscerosomatic response. There are a lot of more subtle responses that give me as a doctor an incredible amount of information about what's going on with your organ systems many years before disease sets in. I cannot tell you how awesome this is for figuring out deep routed, underlying problems that no one else seems to be able to figure out. These tight muscles exist all over the body and the person is usually completely unaware of them or their significance. However, I can tell a person what organ systems are stressed and undernourished and give recommendations to get those organs working strong again.

To recap, muscles can be tight for mechanical reasons and from organ dysfunction. The technology to fix both these problems has been figured out. The process is consistent and predictable and it's fun to see people's health return when they had given up hope.

Treating Headaches Consistently and Predictably is now quite simple to do. It's taken me years to learn how but now I know how.

Headaches come from either a mechanical problem in your skeletal structure OR a nutritional problem causing contraction of your upper neck muscles OR both. By addressing both problems it is quite simple to get rid of even chronic headache pain and migraines.

In the video below I discuss several of the deep muscles in the upper neck that are often responsible for headaches. These headaches are of a cervicogenic origin. This means they are related to the neck. These muscles can contract due to postural problems and meningeal adhesion's which I'm not going to cover because it's a complicated topic. I have plenty of information on the website that covers this in more detail. If you're interested you can watch these two videos:

http://www.aberlechiropractic.com/bone-out-of-place.html

and

http://www.aberlechiropractic.com/winding-and-unwinding.html

After watching these two videos you'll have more detail as to what goes wrong in the human body that the body cannot self correct.

When it comes to nutrition, or the lack of, there are several things that you can be lacking that cause the muscles in the upper neck to contract. You can get massage after massage or adjustment after adjustment and these muscles will continue to tighten up on their own because the underlying nutritional cause is being missed. I'm not talking about taking another vitamin or useless pill either. I'm sure you've tried many nutritional products just to be disappointed with little relief.

I have great success in treating people with headaches and migraines. Even of the long standing variety. Occasionally, I'll find some really messed up people that are on ten or more drugs to treat their pain and even these people can be helped, but it's a process.

If you suffer with headaches, please call our office and speak with me directly. I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have.

As a chiropractor a common question is, "What's better, a soft or firm mattress?"

The answer is always a firm mattress. Here's a little background on the whole subject. If you've looked through my website you'll see I'm huge into posture and body mechanics. Most people think of good posture as being a good thing but not critical to health like I have come to realize. It took doing the work and seeing the miraculous changes that were possible when you improved someones mechanical function by improving their posture. If I can't convince you of that right now, that's ok because it took me years to finally realize it was a fact of life, not a wish or desire.

To help maintain your posture you must sleep properly or else just sleeping causes mechanical problems that accumulate with every nights sleep. Not a desirable occurrence. You can think of it as maybe every year sleeping on a soft mattress is like one small fender bender a year. By themselves each incident isn't huge, but as they accumulate, overtime your health deteriorates quickly.

Ideally you need to sleep on a firm mattress, with a pillow that's the perfect height made of towels that don't compress and change as you sleep on them. When the pillow height is just right and not too high or too low, your body will relax and you'll sleep really well. Plus your mechanics won't get worse due to sleeping.

What's the ideal mattress you ask? After years of searching it's a 6" piece of dense foam put on top of your box springs. Throw away your old mattress and use this foam instead. Every four months simply rotate or flip the foam to keep it in good shape for years. This foam is durable yet very inexpensive. At the time of this writing a king size piece of 6" dense foam is only $360 plus tax (if you live in Kansas) plus shipping which can run between $80 and $100. A queen size piece of foam is $260 and a twin is $165. It doesn't get any better then this. Why so cheap? Because there's no middle man. You buy directly from a foam distributor. I don't make any money either, but I share the information because our Advanced BioStructural Correction™ treatments work much better if people aren't screwing themselves up at night in a soft, saggy bed.

You simply have no idea what I'm talking about until you experience it, but you would have no idea that this option even existed unless I talked about it. This is the first step towards finding a solution for your bed and a better nights sleep.

Very soon I'll have a sample of this foam in my office for anyone to come in and try. It's firm but feels soft. It's relatively inexpensive when you look at a Select Comfort bed (Sleep Number bed) or the soft Tempur-Pedic mattress. These cost between $800 and $2000. Call the office to find out more information.

I tried for years to get my ITB's (outer thigh muscles) to be lose and relaxed. Couldn't do it. No matter what I tried with intense, painful massages, Active Release Technique, even the deepest Graston Technique treatments I could never get my iliotibial bands and underlying quadriceps muscles to fully relax. In fact they felt like leather to some degree. They didn't hurt, but I knew they were causing irritation in my knees and hips and overall causing a lot of problems.

It wasn't until I found out that the tightness in those areas is due to a certain nutritional deficiency, specifically a lack of the enzyme Amylase, that I found what I was looking for. If you're reading this blog and you want looser IT Bands then I'm about to save you years of suffering and money trying to fix it. When I tell runners that I have something in a bottle that will loosen up their ITB's, they usually don't believe me, but after one large bottle of a very specific product they want more. Because one bottle is enough that they can tell a difference in the muscles of the lateral thigh (ITB and vastus lateralus or quad). After two large bottles they're in disbelief that it's this simple. An by three bottles they're happy they met me and learned about enzymes.

Athletes usually come to me because of the Active Release Technique work that I do which relaxes muscles through a unique type of "massage" in a sense. It's very different and very effective, but I do reach a plateau with how relaxed I can get the muscles in the outer thigh. I tell them about the product on their first or second visit and that they'll have to see me less if they simply start taking this stuff. Many insist on the hands on treatment however. Not that this is bad. It's just incomplete.

If you have read my bio, you know I am an electrical and computer engineer as well as a chiropractor. I relish in knowing how things work and what process is going to accomplish my goals the fastest and for the lowest cost. For this problem of ITB syndrome, the enzymes along with muscle work in the beginning are the absolute best thing that money can buy. It just doesn't get any easier then this.

Make an appointment and I'll show you what I mean. Within a month or two, you will have soft lateral thigh muscles that can deliver ballistic type motions for you on a moments notice. If running is your thing, then you absolutely want this product and Active Release Technique.

Benign Essential Tremors are when you can't hold your hands steady with your arms out in front of you or when writing or doing activities that require a steady hand. It is extremely annoying problem. It's not to be confused with Parkinson's, which gives people the same annoying hand tremors. These two problems have completely different causes.

Here's the story. I have a patient with Parkinson's and several with Benign Essential Tremors. I found out there is little I can do to help people with Parkinson's other then maybe slow down the process. But with the Benign Essential Tremors...That's a different scenerio.

My father in law has had Benign Essential Tremors for years and it simply kept getting worse as time went by. I gave him two different enzyme products to "Try", hoping that it might make a dent with his problem. Listen to this. After half a bottle of each product his Tremors were almost gone. He is study as a rock holding his hands out in front of him, which I had never seen before. His writing was significantly improved as well. He still struggled a little, but now his writing was legible. Had I known it would work this well I would have video taped the before so I could have shared the after.

Such a small nutritional enhancement has made this mans life much, much better. I now am using it on some others with the same problems. I'm not expecting it to be miraculous on everyone but who knows. I'll report back with more information.

By the way, he stopped taking the product for a month now and still no return of symptoms. What was the underlying problem you ask? He did not have enough fatty acids to allow proper nerve function. I gave him a digestive enzyme formula to help him digest the fat he was eating and another formula to give him fatty acids. That's all it took. I actually have faith in nutritional work again. Honestly, I had given up on it because it rarely seemed to work. Not any more!!!

If you suffer from acne I have some really nice options available for you.

You can read the entire PDF on solutions for acne for free...

Let me start by saying that "Acne Is Healthy For You". Yea, right you say. I'll explain why it's healthy and if you know why the acne is good for you, it's quite easy to fix.

The oil and puss that come out through your skin are toxins that are overwhelming your body. Your liver can't keep up with these toxins so they're forced through the skin... Why? Because they have to get out somehow and the skin is a very large organ of detoxification. That's why acne is healthy for you. If you kept those inside, you wouldn't feel very well and eventually you would get quite sick.

The solution for improving your acne is to nourish your liver and allow it to run efficiently again. In addition, you need to support the digestion of fats from excess hormones and dietary fats. When you take care of both of these watch out, because your body will function much better and your acne will improve significantly.

I have had 100% success helping people with acne. Teenagers and people in their 20's and 30's as well. There's a reason for the acne and when you're a teenager and going through puberty you have a lot of excess hormones that your body needs to get rid of (detoxify).

There are two products in particular that help significantly with this process. One is for liver support and the other is to digest fats and oils. Within a few days you will start to notice a difference. Once your hormones calm down you can back off on the products so you can't stop taking them or your acne will return. But why would you want to stop. Here is something you can do to significantly improve your health, energy levels and more...Plus decrease your acne considerably.

When I first learned about enzymes, the topic of heartburn was a common theme. The causes of heartburn were discussed and I was surprised how simple it was to get rid of. Not by treating the heartburn and the acid, but by providing nourishing nutrition to the body so it could make a protective layer to contain the corrosive acids.

You can read the entire PDF on Solutions for Heartburn by clicking here...

Understand that your body creates acid for a reason. It's not just there to cause you pain and suffering. You must involve acid in the digestive process in order to digest proteins which your body uses for repair and immune system support. When you block that process, you will feel less pain, but you will degenerate (ie age) faster.

The "trick" isn't to block the acid. Instead  you provide nutrition so the body can make a protective layer along the lining of the stomach. It's analogous to rubbing Vaseline on the inside of your stomach and esophagus to protect you from the acid. But this layer of mucus can only be made IF you have the proper BUILDING BLOCKS to make the actual mucus. If you have heartburn I guarantee you are lacking in these specific nutrients. These are not vitamins or minerals or drugs but other nutritional components that your body needs.

Once your body can make mucus as it's needed you won't have heartburn. You don't have to watch what you eat. You won't worry anymore. In fact you'll simply forget you ever had it. The only exception to this that I've seen is if you're really stressed out in life. Stress is truly the underlying problem and robs you of nutrition. If after months of not having heartburn you feel a little coming back. Just get another bottle and that will take care of it. Either you didn't get enough nutrition in the first bottle OR you're under so much stress that occasionally you'll have to supplement with the specific nutrition I'm referring to.
